| What is cast bronze? |
| |
Bronze is a metal alloy (combination of metal), consisting primarily of copper and tin. It is cast when it is heated to a liquid state, poured into a mold and cooled. |
| |
| Does "solid bronze" really exist? |
| |
No. Bronze is a combination of metals and there are a variety of combinations. |
| |
| Why buy cast bronze as opposed to engraved bronze? |
| |
Cast bronze weathers better in exterior locations due to the fact that it has more metals in the alloy compared to milled (engravable) metal. |
| |
| Do cast bronze plaques have a clear coating? |
| |
They should always have a clear polyurethane exterior coating unless the customer intends to allow the plaque to oxidize or intends to refinish it on a frequent basis. |
| |
| Is a natural patina possible? |
| |
Yes. A cast plaque can be allowed to oxidize naturally. We also offer a verdigris patina finish. But the plaque needs to be finished with a clear coat after the patina is achieved or the plaque will continue to oxidize. |
